Carrotica
In the suburbs somewhere in Canada, 16-year-old Nadav is writing an explicit gay erotica in private. His mother, Dr. Shari Tremor, is a fertility botanist studying the mating patterns of carrots and becomes fascinated and aroused by the particularly seductive Femme Carrot. Through fantasy, music, and tango, the two find themselves overwhelmed with their lust and forced to confront their inner selves.
The film won the Cristal Award for Best Graduation Film at the Annecy International Animation Festival 2024, the Wacom Public Prize at the Ottawa International Animation Festival 2024, the Best Student Film Award at the Zagreb Film Festival 2024, and also participated in the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival 2024. The film had its Czech premiere on BOO 2025.
Daniel Sterlin-Altman is a Canadian animation filmmaker based in Berlin. Specialising in stop-motion animation, Daniel explores family, sexuality and identity through a range of camp, absurdity, comedy and realism. A Master's graduate of Filmuniversity Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF in Potsdam, Daniel has directed several independent award-winning short films as well as commissioned works that have screened at festivals around the world.
