Cold Call

An artist with writer's block is sitting in an artist's residence in northern Germany. Outside, construction workers renovate a vacation home; inside, nothing happens - until the landline phone rings. A supposed Microsoft employee wants access to her supposedly broken computer. Instead, she starts to talk – about heartbreak, emptiness, and the failure to work. Without realizing it, she becomes a scambaiter.

Stefanie Schroeder works in photography and film. She combines a documentary approach with strategies from conceptual art and is interested in social usages of photography, work/labour and their images, east Germany, ghost pictures and spam mails. She is a member of the Filmic Initiative Leipzig and of artspace.mpeg. Her works have been shown at transmediale, Ars Electronica, DOK Leipzig, Cinema du Reel Nyon.
