Taxi Tales is a documentary offering an intimate glimpse into the remarkable lives of three Berlin taxi drivers – Anna-Maria, Erdal, and Matthias – who have witnessed the city’s history up close. Originating from Matthias, the director’s father, the film unfolds as a personal portrait that refuses to view taxi driving as a failed career.
Betsi Schumacher’s filmmaking explores intimate human stories shaped by social structures and questions of power. With a keen eye for overlooked perspectives, she creates sensitive, emotionally resonant portraits that connect the personal with the political. Her work is rooted in close observation, empathy, and a genuine curiosity for the people behind the stories.
