What happens when the film you believed in doesn’t find its audience? When funding falls through, a project doesn’t get selected, or your professional path looks very different from what you had imagined?

A career in film(making) is full of uncertainty. Behind every premiere, sales deal, award, or other career milestone are stories that didn’t work, opportunities that were lost, and expectations that weren’t met. Moments of doubt, exhaustion, and failure.

This workshop invites filmmakers and industry professionals to share those experiences that usually don’t appear in a press kit – and to explore what happened afterwards. We’ll exchange stories and talk about the strategies – useful, useless, accidental or otherwise – that helped us navigate internal and external pressures, political realities, burnout and other nasty things the industry tends to throw at you.
Plans were made. Reality had other ideas. And apparently, this is normal. So, bring a story, a setback, a frustration, or simply your curiosity and let’s talk about how to make sense of this mess.

The workshop will be led by Vincent Förster – filmmaker, programme manager for short films at Berlinale Generation, consultant for the European Documentary Association (DAE), curator and member of the selection committees for the Filmfest Dresden and Kurzfilmtage Winterthur festivals.

The workshop will be held in English and is aimed at filmmakers and producers. To attend the event, valid Industry accreditation is required. You can find information on how to obtain Industry accreditation HERE.
