Cinekid and Short Films for Children

Short films hold a special significance for young audiences. It is the format through which they first encounter audiovisual media and film, and which serves as a gateway to the colourful world of cinema. Chloë van Baar from the Cinekid Festival will explain how one of the leading children’s film and media festivals works with short films for children. She will focus on the curation of short film programmes, the selection of films for different age groups, and what the short format can offer children in terms of different styles, themes and narrative techniques.

Chloë van Baar was born in the Netherlands. In 2018 she graduated with a BA in Media and Culture from the University of Amsterdam and in 2020 she got her MA in Film Studies. Starting out as an intern at the programming department for the 2018 festival, Chloë has now been working as a programmer and producer for Cinekid Festival for five years.
