BOO International Film Festival | 3–9 November 2025, Prague

BOO considers all age groups. See the programme for the elder and wiser audience.

15. 10. 2025

One of the tasks that BOO has set itself is to connect different age groups through film. That is why we have prepared a program specifically for the elder and wiser audience, who will become festival jurors and provide feedback directly to filmmakers.

Insight into Audience Perception: Focus Group for Seniors

November 3, 2:00 p.m at Kino Kavalírka

Discussion between the 60+ audience and filmmakers

What does the audience expect from a film based on the synopsis, photos from the film, poster, or trailer? The programme offers filmmakers unique insight into the expectations and thinking of audiences over 60, while allowing 60+ viewers to share their opinions, experiences, and feedback directly with filmmakers.

This is a unique format of moderated discussion led by Lucie Dubravay Trautenberg, in which representatives of the audience with rich life experiences will have the floor. Viewers aged 60+ will thus have the opportunity to express their opinions and attitudes directly to Czech filmmakers and provide direct feedback on whether the final form of the film met their expectations based on the promotional materials for the specific work. The event is part of the Visegrad Audiovisual LAB project.

The topic of discussion will be the film Wayfarer by director Veronika Jelšíková and producer Pavla Klimešová.

BOO for the Elder and Wiser

November 4, 9:00 a.m. at Kino Kavalírka

A select group of jurors aged 60+ will watch seven European short films, some of which are touring major international festivals, while others are among this year's discoveries. These jurors will then decide which film will win the award in the category.

Seven European short films connect intimate stories with big questions of identity, closeness, and memory, opening up space for dialogue across generations. The Polish film Honey Bunny follows a retired firefighter who struggles to understand his wife and himself when his emotional affection belongs more to rabbits than to people. In the Irish film Turnaround, a cleaning lady faces a dilemma after a sudden loss: whether to keep a dangerous secret in the face of the harsh reality of her daily work. The autobiographical, ironic essay Being John Smith explores how an ordinary name can influence self-confidence and life path. The Ukrainian film Critical Condition connects the past of exile with questions of contemporary identity. In the poetic Polish film Dancing in the Corner, colorful television screens after 1989 become a mirror of a new reality – one full of football broadcasts, while family relationships remain somewhere in the background. The encounter between a young gas station attendant and a truck driver in the film Greek Apricots opens up a fragile space of closeness and shared loneliness. And the meditative film Notes from the Planet Three shows how fact and fiction intertwine in the digital age in the search for the truth about the universe.
